About Good News Restaurant and Bar

Good News Restaurant and Bar at 694 Main St S, Woodbury, CT 06798 isn’t just another spot on the map—it’s a local gem where food meets storytelling, where flavors come alive in a warm, art-filled setting. For those searching for a place that feels like home but serves like a top-tier kitchen, this restaurant delivers more than just meals.

A unique dining destination in Woodbury where every dish tells a story

If you’re heading to Woodbury, Connecticut and looking for an experience that’s equal parts culinary excellence and community warmth, Good News Restaurant and Bar is a stop you shouldn’t miss. Tucked away on the historic Main Street, it’s a place where the walls speak through modern art, where the clink of glasses merges with live music, and where the menu carries bold flavors made with intention.

From the outside, it gives off charming countryside energy. Step inside, and you’ll feel like you’ve been invited into someone’s beautifully curated living room, with rotating exhibitions, curated lighting, and welcoming hosts. But the real star here? The food. With a menu that embraces local ingredients, sustainable sourcing, and global inspiration, every dish feels intentional.

Whether you’re coming in for a quiet dinner or celebrating a weekend, Good News creates moments that linger. The ambience, paired with impeccable service, sets the tone for an evening you’ll want to recreate again and again.

The art of slow dining with an ingredient-first philosophy

There’s something comforting about restaurants that don’t rush you. That encourage you to savor. At Good News, every element feels purposefully slow—but in the best possible way. From the pace of the kitchen to the rhythm of the background music, it’s a space that honors time well spent.

The menu evolves with the seasons. You might start with goat cheese-stuffed squash blossoms in the summer or cozy up with duck confit and lentils in the colder months. Each plate arrives with a balanced palette of colors and textures, highlighting not just technical cooking but also culinary artistry.

Wine enthusiasts will find joy in the extensive wine list, carefully curated to complement every dish on the table. The bar isn’t an afterthought either—it’s where classics are honored and new blends are embraced. Sip on a cucumber gimlet or a bourbon twist and let the night unfold from there.

What sets them apart isn’t just what’s served but how it’s served. The kitchen respects its ingredients. Locally sourced vegetables, ethically raised meats, and consciously selected seafood make up the heart of the dishes. This isn’t just about dining. It’s about supporting food systems, nurturing local farmers, and elevating Connecticut’s culinary scene.

Where fine dining meets art, community, and conversation

Dining at Good News Restaurant and Bar feels like attending a dinner party hosted by someone who happens to be an amazing chef and an artist. That’s because Carole Peck, the creative force behind the restaurant, is both. A celebrated chef and a long-standing community advocate, she’s infused the space with artistic expression, culinary innovation, and a deep respect for sustainability.

The restaurant is one of the few Certified Green Restaurants in the region, a commitment that stretches from the recycled materials in the building design to the eco-friendly kitchen practices. That’s not just a claim—it’s reflected in their composting program, energy-efficient lighting, and partnerships with local farms.

Beyond food, the walls showcase rotating art from local artists, turning the space into a living gallery. You’re not just surrounded by guests and servers—you’re surrounded by stories. Stories of makers, farmers, and dreamers. That’s what makes the Good News experience intimate.

And people notice. Just scroll through the reviews, and you’ll read stories of anniversary dinners, birthday toasts, surprise engagements, or quiet solo meals that turned into treasured evenings. The hospitality team doesn’t just serve—they remember. They smile. They ask about your day. That level of care? It’s rare.

A destination worth the drive—whether you’re a local or visiting from afar

Let’s talk location. Woodbury is already a charming town known for its antique shops, scenic trails, and slow-living vibe. But Good News Restaurant and Bar gives it an unexpected culinary pulse. Just an hour and a half from NYC, it’s become a weekend favorite for city dwellers looking to escape into calm without sacrificing quality.

Parking is easy. The surroundings are peaceful. And once you step through the door, it’s like stepping into a curated escape. Whether you’re on a date night, a family gathering, or a solo adventure, the restaurant fits every mood. Want to sit outside? Their outdoor seating area feels like a quiet garden oasis. Want a cozy corner table with moody lighting? They’ve got that too.

And for those looking to extend the experience at home, Good News also offers private events and catering services, with the same culinary integrity brought straight to your doorstep. It’s no wonder they’ve built a loyal following—not just in Connecticut, but from travelers and foodies across the northeast.

What guests love and keep coming back for

People come back not because the place is trendy, but because it’s consistent. In a world full of changing trends, there’s something reassuring about a restaurant that knows who it is and keeps doing it well. From menu staples like the sesame-encrusted tuna to creative specials that rotate weekly, the food keeps guests intrigued and delighted.

Even kids love it. There’s something for everyone—vegetarian options, gluten-free adaptations, and always room for dessert (don’t skip the warm chocolate cake if it’s on the menu). The vibe is elevated but never stuffy. You’ll find folks dressed up for an occasion, but also folks in jeans enjoying a Tuesday night meal.

Planning your visit to Good News Restaurant and Bar

Open most days of the week for lunch and dinner, it’s best to call ahead for reservations—especially on weekends. The restaurant does get busy, and for good reason. You can find more information on their official website, which is updated regularly with special events, seasonal menus, and chef highlights.

For those who love discovering hidden culinary gems, Good News isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a destination. One where the location, menu, service, and ambiance all work in harmony. It’s not just about eating—it’s about connecting. With your food. With your surroundings. With your people.

  • “ Love the place, I got disappointed when I got to know they didn't have lobster ravioli anymore. I tried the Mac& cheese lobster. That was pretty great. Thank you guys. I'm always bringing new customers to you ”

    Denise Pereira
  • “ This place gets better every time we visit. The perogies were AMAZING. So good that I didn't get a picture. Had the tuna melt, burger and Mac and cheese to share. A few cocktails and it made for a delicious dinner. ”

    Erin Richmond
  • “ Exciting and eccentric little eatery! Full of flavor and good vibes. The menu is robust and any item is sure to satiate the palate. We started with the chicken wontons, which were savory and delicious. Also had the lamb meatballs, which were tender and delectable, accompanied by black lentils and mashed sweet potatoes. All around awesome experience! ”

    Brad Osborn
  • “ I love this place. When I hike up in this area I make sure I stop here for a meal after the hike. The food is unique and delicious. There hasn’t been a meal I haven’t liked. ”

    Shianne Purvis
  • “ My first visit since the change of ownership and makeover. I’m impressed. Clean, attractive decor, reliable and memorable favorites still on the menu and very pleasant servers. I miss Carol and Bernard but well done!! ”

    Keith “Keithtanyc” Tanyc
  • “ My husband and I visited Good News for dinner after their recent ownership change and remodel, and we have to say we were impressed! Though I had never visited before, I had seen pictures of what it previously looked like inside, and you can tell they did extensive renovations, but it’s absolutely beautiful! The food was all delicious, and the short rib and scallops were cooked perfectly. Our server was kind and attentive. I can’t wait to come back and try more of their menu! ”

  • “ We are from out of town visiting family. We stopped here for lunch. The mushroom ravioli and butternut squash risotto were absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area! Thank You for such great meals!! ”

    Tom Wiggins
  • “ The ambiance is cute, elegant, classy, yet also relaxed & casual. The host and server were both friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic. They gave us the right amount of attention. Not too much, but they came by often enough that we never had to wait. The wine, beer, cocktail, and mocktail lists were all extensive, filled with interesting, high-quality selections. If we had been drinking more, there would have been many more things we would have liked to have ordered. We ordered the Pear Martini, which was elegant, balanced, flavourful, and vibrant. And the Strawbery 75, which was also delicious. The food was delicious! We ordered the Tuna Tartare appetizer, the Seared Nantucket Sea Scallops, the LOTS OF LOBSTER "ADULT" BAKED MACARONI THE ORIGINAL, and the Creme Brulee Cheesecake. The cheesecake, and the scallop risotto were both just fine. But the real standouts were the Lobster Mac, and the Tuna Tartare. Both of those were AMAZING! We'll definitely plan to return! ”
